Mt. Meru & Kilimanjaro

Experience the East African high landscape while climbing the two highest mountains in Tanganyika. When hiking on Mt. Meru (4566m), the altitude is adjusted for Kilimanjaro (5895m), which we climb via the interesting Machame route.

Mountain hiking on two of the highest and most beautiful mountains in Africa. The first section and the basis for acclimatization is the fascinating and varied ascent of Mt. Meru, Africa's fifth highest mountain. An extinct volcano with an even crater in the partly collapsed caldera, which is open to the east like a horseshoe. He is wrongly in the mountaineering favor in the shadow of Kilimanjaro. The ascent leads through tropical rain forests rich in animals to the alpine zones. From the summit, the view stretches far down over the even ash cone into the wide savannas in the west and over the Momella Lakes in the other direction in a depression zone with pink clouds of thousands of flamingos to Kilimanjaro. After the descent we relax in a magically located lodge and can observe buffaloes, warthogs, maraboos, giraffes and elephants in the immediate vicinity and there have also been reports of roaming lions.

Now it is time to climb the "snow dome" on the Machame route. Reaching the crater rim at Gilman´s Point 5715m or Stella Point 5745m is an unforgettable emotional highlight! And with this good feeling you can then continue on easy terrain to the highest Point, Uhuru Peak (5895 m).
Diverse flora and fauna on the way to two mountains will make the effort forgotten and peak successes will only be the culmination.

We still have a few days afterwards to go on a safari and stalk the wild animals. The safaris lead us into the Tarangire and Lake Manyara National Park as well as to the imploded Ngorongoro crater.

Requirements for participation
The ascent of Mt. Meru & Kilimanjaro corresponds to a demanding mountain hike in the Alps, but at a higher altitude. The participants are expected to be in a good physical condition to withstand the daily walking times of 4-6 hours. A trip away from the tourist flow, especially in a developing country, is connected with the unforeseen and requires mobility. Good health, tolerance and a sense of camaraderie are important prerequisites for a successful journey.
